Crazy old videos

I was scouring through my hard drive doing some spring cleaning when I stumbled across a couple of old videos. So, why not upload them to youtube?

"Cornwall Cricket Sunday League"

"Brendan Pope : Legend of Cricket"

Apologies for any bad language (it's all Brendan's fault!)

Warrawong Sanctuary

Mum was visiting again recently (okay, so it was almost 2 months ago) and we decided to go check out Warrawong Sanctuary and see some native fauna.

Mum had fun feeding the kangaroos...

They were pretty tame (and pretty lazy!). The star attraction at Warrawong is the platypus, so we waited paitently by the platypus pond hoping to see one...

...Alas none was to be found. There was a noisy koala in the trees...

...but I was busy off hunting that damned platypus and so I missed getting any good photos. Oh, and we found some more of those bloody giant ants!

Oh No, More Paving!

Here is the view from upstairs when all the sand was in. We had been told that we only needed 750kg of sand (coincidentally this was the maximum amount we were allowed to carry) but it turned out to not be enough. My initial gut was that we needed 250kg more and we ended up getting another ~230kg in bags from the local hardware store. Gutted!

We finished the major part of the paving just before we headed off to dinner, so these next photos were taken at night. Still, you can see how straight those lines are! There were a few pavers that were a bit too high or too low so we had to pop them out and fiddle with the sand levels. One last go around with the plate compactor and we called it a night.

This view is from the doorway at the back of the house.

This is from the opposite corner looking back towards the lovely hot water cylinder. We still need to get some pavers cut to fit in around the clothesline and the edges, but we are 90% complete! Then, of course, comes all the tidying up...

Paving!

We had decided to pave the back yard and this weekend was crunch time. On an unseasonal 30 degree day we set about digging up the back yard and filling it with sand.

Dan helped us out and even posed for a few photographs!

The ground is so dry that it was kicking up a lot of dust. Even with the masks on we were picking black boogers from our noses all the next day (eww!).

Karl also helped us out and you can see his legs in the photo above. His girlfriend came along too. She has only been in Adelaide for a few days, having flown over from Japan. So far, apart from Karl's flat, she has been to the dump, our dirty back yard, and the industrial place where we got the sand!

Here's a photo of me in case you thought I didn't do any work! It was taken by Michelle from the comfort of the kitchen though. Michelle and her Dad were excellent in ferrying the rubbish to the dump, unloading it all, and collecting all the sand.

Back in NZ

Michelle and I were back in NZ over last week for my grandmother's funeral. Even though it was a sad occasion it was still good to see all the family again.

My niece, Hayley, decided she wanted to bus into town one day, so all us kids headed off to the bus stop....

Where is Greg? And what am I pointing at?

A very suspicious Greg of course! Hayley, Dani and Michelle spent the day around Newmarket and at the park while the rest of us helped sort through Omi's flat. Hayley was her usual exuberant self!

Later that day I let Hayley have a go of my camera and she snapped this picture of her daddy...

How talented! The rest of the photos were of her feet and the table legs, though... Posted by Picasa

Weird Creatures

We went on a road trip a few weeks back along the coast and down to Victor Harbour. We took Dan and Karl along, two guys from NZ that I got jobs here in Adelaide. Karl managed to find this lovely specimen along the way...

We thought it might have been a snake at first, but then we saw it had legs (or at least what remained of them!)

Then at Victor harbour Karl got attack by one of our famous giant ants. These things are over an inch long.

Those rocks its standing on? Those are BOULDERS! Posted by Picasa

Big Day Out

Well, my new PC is still busted but luckily my old one is still running.

My sister's partner Rio has been performing at the Big Day Out as it travels around New Zealand and Australia and last Friday they played in Adelaide. We caught up with him the night before after we finally tracked him down at the hotel (Hunuki? wha??) and he was able to get us some tickets to the show.

I straight up told my team leader that I had got some tickets to the BDO and he told me "looks like you're gonna be sick this afternoon then" and helped me construct my ruse. A couple hours later and we were watching Scribe (and giving it up for Rio, as requested) in the 35+ degree heat.

We managed to catch up with Rio at the Luciano show. Michelle seemed to enjoy it!

We had guest passes, which allowed us to access the special Guest Lounge (after a bit of trekking around to get the right wrist band) which meant we had clean toilets with no queues! There was also free water, which was a godsend. The regular vendors were selling it at $4 a bottle!

We got to see Scribe, My Chemical Romance, King Kapisi, The Killers, The Streets, Tool, Violent Femmes and a lot more I guess...

The fun didn't end there though! Rio managed to get us into the after party, so we got to hang out with all the stars (really we just hung out with Scribe and his group, but it sounds cool!).

Rio was a bit down cos Kristy couldn't be there...

But we cheered him up! They are looking to come over to Australia again soon and hopefully can make it to Adelaide too. Hopefully? I mean definitely!

What a cool day and night! It was definitely a bonus to catch up with Rio (other stars be damned!) and I can't wait til Kristy and Rio can come back and we can show off all the attractions of Adelaide! Posted by Picasa

New Post!

Because Dan has been nagging me, here is an update!

What has happened since I last posted? Went to the wedding as mentioned, came back for the Ashes with Brendan, went to Melbourne for xmas with Michelle's family, took Michelle to her first cricket game, took Dan (a different one!) and Karl out for a trip around the Flieurieu, went back to work, got a new (and broken) computer, worked some more, found out my grandmother is really sick (which sucks) and here I am.

There were lots of photos along the way but the busted state of my new PC precludes me from uploading them. We'll see how things go.
